Sound Shape: A New Approach to Meeting Room Audio

Logitech’s new Sound Shape technology is rethinking how audio is delivered in large meeting spaces. Discover how focused sound could help your spaces.

When turning up the volume isn't the answer

In a small meeting room, getting everyone to hear clearly is usually straightforward. But as meeting spaces get larger, audio becomes considerably more complex.

In boardrooms, training facilities and large collaboration spaces, participants can be seated many metres away from the display. Traditional speaker systems can struggle to deliver consistent volume and speech clarity across the room, while reflections from glass, walls and ceilings can affect the listening experience.

The usual solution is often to add more speakers, distribute them throughout the ceiling and invest in additional cabling, installation and acoustic tuning.

But what if there were another way?

At its latest product launch, Logitech introduced Sound Shape, a new audio technology designed to direct sound more precisely towards listeners, helping deliver a more consistent listening experience across large meeting spaces.

What is Logitech Sound Shape technology?

Sound Shape is Logitech's proprietary audio technology thatuses multiple speaker drivers working together to control how sound travelsthrough a room.

Rather than simply projecting sound outwards, the technology uses focused acoustic beams to direct sound towards intended listening areas while reducing sound travelling in unwanted directions.

Think of the difference between a traditional light bulb and a focused flashlight. One spreads light broadly, while the other directs it towards a specific area.

Sound Shape applies a similar concept to audio.

By controlling how sound waves interact, the technology is designed to reduce unwanted reflections and maintain more consistent volume levels across a room.

For meeting participants, this could mean a more balanced listening experience, whether they're seated near the display or towards the back of the room.

For organisations, it introduces a different approach to designing audio for spaces where clear communication is essential.

Meet the speakers behind Sound Shape

Logitech is bringing Sound Shape to market through two new products designed for large and extra-large meeting environments.

Rally Speaker 2 Pro

Designed for large meeting spaces, Rally Speaker 2 Pro features a matrix array of 32 micro-drivers working together to direct sound throughout the room.

It is designed to deliver clear, consistent audio to participants seated up to 14 metres from the front of the room.

Potential applications include executive boardrooms, large conference rooms, and training spaces where participants need to hear remote presenters and meeting content clearly.

Rally Speaker 2 Max

For extra-large environments, Rally Speaker 2 Max expands on the concept with a 64-driver matrix array.

Designed to reach participants up to 20 metres from the front of the room, it targets spaces where delivering consistent audio coverage can be particularly challenging.

This could make it relevant for large training facilities, expansive boardrooms and other collaboration environments that need to accommodate more people without compromising the meeting experience.

Both products are designed to deliver audio from the front of the room, offering an alternative to conventional installations that rely on multiple distributed ceiling speakers.

Both products are planned for commercial availability in Winter 2027.

What could Sound Shape mean for your meeting rooms?

The potential benefits extend beyond the speakers themselves. For organisations planning new meeting spaces or reviewing existing AV infrastructure, Sound Shape introduces several considerations.

1. A more consistent experience for every participant

When people can hear clearly regardless of where they're sitting, it's easier to follow presentations, contribute to discussions and stay engaged.

For hybrid meetings, this matters particularly when in-room participants need to hear audio from remote colleagues, presentations or other meeting content.

2. A different approach to large-room audio design

Traditional distributed audio systems can require multiple speakers, extensive cabling and careful acoustic planning.

Sound Shape is designed to deliver broad room coverage from the front of the room, potentially simplifying aspects of the installation. The actual design requirements will still depend on the space, its acoustics and the intended use.

3. Greater flexibility for complex environments

Large and divisible rooms can present different audio requirements depending on how the space is configured.

Logitech's approach introduces new possibilities for shaping sound coverage around different room layouts. The technology has also been demonstrated in a multilingual concept, with separate audio feeds directed towards different areas of the same room.

That concept points to potential future applications for international meetings and training environments, although specific integrations and capabilities will depend on product development and platform support.

4. A more considered investment in workplace technology

Audio design is often only one part of a wider meeting-room project. Displays, cameras, microphones, room controls, collaboration platforms and ongoing management all need to work together.

New approaches to audio provide an opportunity to review the complete room experience rather than treating speakers as an isolated component.

The right solution will always depend on the room, the users and the outcomes the organisation needs to achieve.

‍

Is Sound Shape right for your workplace?

Sound Shape is particularly relevant to organisations designing or upgrading large meeting environments where consistent audio coverage is a priority.

However, it won't automatically be the right choice for every room.

Smaller meeting spaces may be better served by an integrated video bar or a conventional speaker system. Larger or more complex environments may benefit from a more detailed assessment of room acoustics, seating arrangements, existing infrastructure and collaboration requirements.

At Merge Technologies, we look at how all these elements work together to deliver a better workplace experience.

Our approach is to understand what people need from their meeting spaces first, then recommend the technology and design that best supports those outcomes.

As new audio technologies become available, the opportunity isn't simply to introduce different equipment. It's to rethink how people communicate, collaborate and participate in meetings.
